Never stop yourself from trying something new based on anything, unless of course it's too dangerous and even then there are over ruling limitations. I found within the last year two things I enjoy doing and without sounding vain, I'm not that bad at either. I am going to be 40 in a couple of years and home never tried my hand at drawing other than a doodle on a sketchpad. My wife drew a picture one night that blew me away and I thought, Wow it must be nice to have that talent at your disposal.
A couple days later I purchased a cheap sketch pad, some everyday HB pencils and decided to give it a shot. Not only did I enjoy it, I also wasn't half bad... LOL. I couldn't get enough for awhile to the point that if I was working on a sketch in the evening, I could not go to bed until I thought it was to my satisfaction. I decided to take a break from this for a bit, as I was spending all my free time at it, deciding to try my hand at carving.

0.k. no I didn't completely break free from drawing as the carving allowed me to do it too. I would freehand first and then carve and finesse it the way I wanted it then usually burn features with a handheld propane torch.I have done items for friends and family, sold the odd piece here and there when someone wanted something. In the end, I find it fun and relaxing and so glad I found it. The way I look at it is when the day comes that it is no longer fun or that I can learn no more from it, I'll only then decide if I'm to continue. Until then, no matter what age I am as I know I'm still young I'll at least give something a go, what do I have to lose.
If you don't like it move on and if you do like it, the only person you need to worry about criticism from is yourself! Fortunately, I've got family members and friends who support me in everything that I do and I accept any and all criticism, but I won't let it change what I love to do. I'd love it if you have tried something recently in the past if you would drop me a link in the comment section below so I may see it.
If you do like what you see and you want to take a look at my hobby section, I have others there and from time to time I have sold some pieces that people wanted to have framed. All artwork is done from either a picture taken by either me, my wife, from a magazine or supplied by the person wanting a special someone done. There is one we did in the hobby section for my wife's grandmother after the passing of her grandfather.
Yeah, you're drawings are pretty good! Keep it up!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jenny!! I enjoy it, as long as I'm in the mood.
DeleteWow! super great. I like doing wood burns... I also sketch on the wood, then use the wood burning tool to burn it into the wood. Kinda similar. When I began homeschooling, I wanted to take a close look at how people learn to do things. So, I chose something I knew NOTHING about and in fact I thought I would be no good and it would be boring. Now, I've been crocheting things for around 7 years LOL Awesome article!
ReplyDeleteThanks Candy, would love to see something you have done...Share sometime!
