My mother raised 4 of us on a meager amount of money. She still works today at almost 70 years old. We were always clothed and fed, had everything we NEEDED and on a birthday or Christmas we receive something we WANTED. We definitely grew up without the silver spoon so to speak in some ways but I feel today we were so much better off for it in others.
My one sister has followed also in my mothers footsteps (she makes me proud every day even though I miss her as distance separates us). She has become a very independent women with strong values and has a family of her own. She moved across the country and opened up her own business without having gone to a business college and does well for herself.
Back to the equallity portion of this piece, this is just to show that no matter what your age, status or schooling you can make so much of yourself. These two strong women and many more in my extended family have made me so proud to see what they can accomplish by making it happen for themselves and not letting anything or anyone stand in their way! Let this sink in, give your mother, sister or friend a hug, say thank you and wish them a great International Woman's Day!

What a great looking family! So wonderful to read of your pride for your mom and sister. Your mom is still working at almost 70? Wow! That's impressive! It seems she was, and continues to be, a wonderful role model for your family.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the kind words Sandi, and yes she is a very strong woman in every way. She has definitely been a big role model in my life, I can never repay her for everything she has done for me...although...she would say "you already paid me back".
DeleteWhat a lovely post. It's great to have parents that are good role models. There aren't any parenting manuals but I'm sure that your Mother could write a chapter or two. I'm sure she's so proud of you too.
